Why Use Outdoor Solar Lights?

These days everyone seems to be obsessed with being “green” and saving energy. So when it comes to lighting up your garden, driveway or paths then solar lighting is going to be perfect. But for some reason solar lights are really under used. Sometimes you will see the odd solar light sitting in a neighbours garden, but they are not used to their fullest. There are loads of places and reasons to use solar lights that many people just haven’t looked into yet. You really are only limited by your imagination.

How Do Solar Lights Work?

On top of the outdoor solar lights you will see a small solar panel, this collects the energy from the sunlight during the day, it is then converted into an energy that can be used by the light. This energy is then stored in a rechargeable battery ready to be used when the sun goes down. When the sun does eventually go down there is a small sensor on the light that tells the battery that it is getting dark and it then releases energy to power the light.

The length of time that the light will stay lit up for will depend on the size of the solar panel and the size of battery. Normally if the battery is fully charged during the day it will last about 10 hours through the night. The batteries that are used will last for about three or four years before they need to be replaced.

Solar Lights For Your Driveway and Garden

Probably the most popular use of outdoor solar lights is for the driveway. Many people line these up a meter or so apart up each side of the driveway, just to give them a little bit more guidance when bringing there car onto the drive or putting it into their garage. They are also great for guiding your visitors along the path and off of the grass. These lights don’t give off all that much light, but it is more than enough for you to see the edges of your driveway. Lights like this are not limited to use only on your driveway they are also just as handy for use with your garden paths. Garden solar lights are probably just as popular as the driveway lights.

Why Use Solar Lights?

You might be wondering why you would even want to use solar lights outdoors. Well other than being “green” they are also going to save you money on your electricity bills, you are not going to need to power these lights, stick them in you ground and they take care of themselves. As well as not paying for the electricity that they use, think of all the trouble you would need to go to to install lights that were powered off of the mains. You would need to employ an electrician to wire them all in and also get someone in to dig up all of your garden or driveway to put in the cables you need to run them. Solar lights cut all of this hassle out and make installing them extremely simple.

Security

Outdoor lighting is also a great way of increasing security around your home. If your driveway, paths and garden are all lit up at night the chances of someone trying to get into your house or onto you property is greatly reduced. If they are more likely to be spotted they are going to move on another house without lighting where they can sneak around more easily.

So outdoor solar lights are not just for the environmentally aware among us, they have many uses, mainly keeping you property well lit so it can be navigated easily and safely, and also keeping you and your family safe from prowlers at night. Plus with the advances in technology these lights have come down in price significantly, so are affordable for everyone.
