There are all different kinds of chandeliers around and many of them you would not dream of adding lamp shades to, certainly not the glamorous kind that you see hanging in ballrooms and palaces. In general, when you buy a chandelier light fitting, which is meant to have clip on shades attached, it comes with the right number of shades so that you can simply hang up your chandelier without having to buy shades for it. However, these are generally standard plain white or cream lamp shades and will not enhance your décor as much as lamp shades which you buy specifically to match your décor.
If you would prefer nicer shades, you will find chandelier lamp shades for sale in many specialist lighting stores. Simply, take one the plain shades with you so you can make sure you are getting a good fit. The store salespeople should be able to advise you of the various kinds available and you will find shades in every kind of material from silk to cotton and some very ornate shades decorated with beading and fringing.
If you want to save a little money, you can also buy these shades on the web and you will often find them selling for less than in local stores. If you buy like this, take care to check the dimensions of the lamp shades properly, as a much bigger or smaller shade than the ones which came with your lamp will not work well. Also, when looking at costs, remember to check shipping charges, as many sites charge a cost per item and this can add up when you are looking for five or six shades. If you are in this situation, it may be worth calling the company to see if charges can be reduced.
